We live in a world full of noise and news that can be very negative and discouraging.

Social media is both a blessing and a curse. It keeps us connected but it can also be divisive.

Workplace break room rants can send the day on a downward spiral from the start!

A random text or email can come across the wrong way even if it wasn’t the intention of the sender.

So, how do you distance yourself from all of the negative noise?

You start each day positively and keep habits that help reduce the negative noise!

Below are some simple ways to keep your day positive despite the circumstances.

These things may seem really small or too simple but when they’re combined, they add up to harness the power of positivity.

That’s something everyone needs more of in the day to day grind!  It can make the difference in your health, productivity and overall outlook on life!

Positive vibes…

In your car

1. Car Coasters

These come with all kinds of inspirational quotes, pictures or messages about staying positive.

These are inexpensive and just a small reminder to start positive on your daily commute.

These simple sayings help remind us about what’s within our control to change regardless of the circumstances.

2. Podcasts

It’s free to “virtually meet” some of the most positive people and hear some of the most inspiring stories on your daily commute.

Depending on what your interests are, chances are there is a podcast out there with a great host and message.

If you’re not sure where to start, here’s a great list to check out from Lifehack.  I subscribe to the first one… Lewis Howes is great!

We spend a lot of time in our cars so it’s a great place to set yourself up for a positive day!

3. Framed Positive Quote

What’s your favorite positive quote, saying or scripture?

Print it out, put it in a frame, and put it somewhere you can see it every day.

Make it the first place you look when negativity comes your way.

It’s amazing how a quote, saying or scripture reference can instantly put things in perspective!

4.  Favorite Momento

In addition to a picture of your family, what’s a momento you could put in your work space that helps you keep a positive outlook?

Maybe it’s something that makes you laugh?

Maybe it’s a picture your child made or a special card.

It deserves a place where you can see it daily as a way to stay positive.

5. Screensaver Message

Put a positive message on your screensaver!

You’ll see this start spreading through your workplace because it’s a simple way to promote positivity.

Whether or not you’re in a position of leadership at your workplace, being a source of encouragement and positivity makes the day so much more meaningful!

Screensaver messages are visual reminders when we return from breaks or lunch to finish the day strong.

6. Declutter

How does decluttering help us stay positive? Clutter is an enemy of positivity.

It makes us feel like we can’t keep up. It makes us lose time and tempers.

As another benefit, when we move stuff out the door and donate it, we clear out clutter and we help out someone else for a win-win situation!

7. Decor

Besides pictures, can you use some simple decor pieces that promote positivity in your home?

One way to do this on a budget is to make a simple print out of your favorite quote or verse and frame it.

Your favorite sayings are reminders of hope and encouragement when things are not going as planned.

They can help when you are navigating uncharted territory and times of uncertainty.

8. Music

Make time for music!

Music is an instant mood changer, for better or worse. To help stay positive, create playlists of songs and artists that you find inspiring and motivational.

A 2013 research study in the Journal of Positive Psychology found that people could improve their moods and boost their happiness in just two weeks from listening to upbeat music.

Music is typically available to use at home, work or in the car so it’s something we can turn to quickly for a mental boost!

9. Light

Open the blinds and let some sunshine in!

Bring the outdoors inside with some sunshine and plants. This adds Feng Shui to any area of your home.

If you notice your mood tends to be more negative in extended rainy seasons or when it gets dark earlier, consider a light therapy Happy Light!

10.  A Pet

Obviously, a pet is a huge responsibility and should be a decision that involves the whole family.

But pet therapy has been show to be very effective in helping people in difficult situations to have a positive outlook.

It’s hard to resist a smile with a cuddly ball of fur in your lap!

Our homes are where we spend the majority of our time and they should be a place where we put priority on setting ourselves up for positive!

11.  A Smile

Doesn’t cost a dime but instantly changes a mood.

It’s so easy to get lost in thoughts or so distracted that we don’t realize it until someone asks if we’re okay.

A smile sends the message that everything is okay and it’s also contagious to those around us  🙂

What do you do to keep your day positive?  I’d love to hear!
